All About Neck Pain Symptoms

normal neck pain

Pain in neck and shoulders is common among people who work for long hours in their office and sit in the same position throughout the day. The neck pain can vary from a mild pain to severe burning pain. Generally, the mild neck pain can be treated by taking pain killers, gentle massage by using a pain balm or simply by taking rest. However, if the pain lasts for more than three months, it can be a ‘chronic’ pain and needs immediate attention.

What causes neck pain?

There are several factors that may lead to neck pain. These are mentioned below:

1. Wrong postures
2. Sleeping and awkward position
3. Working on computers for long hours
4. Tension and stress
5. Accidents and also sports injuries

Today, no specific reason has been found that can cause pain in the neck. However, in some serious cases the underlying source of the problem can be fallen disc, deformed spine, whiplash injuries and in many cases a tumor or infection.

Remember, a normal neck pain will not last for greater than a week. In case it does, then check for any different symptoms, such as unexplained weight loss, severe pain attacks, or reduction in muscle power of the shoulders and also hands. If any of these symptoms occur, it is advised to take immediate medical help.

However, if any of the above symptoms are not present and you are still experiencing prolonged neck pain, then it is a great idea to consult with a physical therapist, such as a chiropractic practitioner. A chiropractor is a doctor that focuses on treating back pain, neck cramping, migraines, and many other kinds of pain with a non-surgical and also drug-free approach. Unlike other doctors who immediately prescribe drugs for reducing your pain, chiropractors examine your neck (and entire body) to obtain the root cause of the pain.
